Jiyoun Kim Studio collaborated with Lumena on the Desk On Project. Lumena, a brand that manufactures a variety of products, including lighting, fans, humidifiers, and air purifiers, is known for its reasonable prices, high-quality finishes, and sophisticated design language.
The objective of this project was to expand Lumena's outdoor-centric lighting portfolio to the indoor space. Desk On utilizes Flicker-Free LED technology and allows users to adjust the color and brightness of the light using the knob on its base.
In this project, Jiyoun Kim Studio focused on creating an object that provides visual delight through the contrast of a simple and comfortable silhouette with unique details. The Triangle Frame, which shows a distinctive cross-section created through extrusion molding, not only enhances the structural integrity but also serves a functional role in concealing the power cable. Additionally, the different angles of the frame surfaces reflect light in various ways, creating a play of shadows and highlights. This not only adds depth to the product but also creates an optical illusion, making the frame appear like a flat graphic.
Lumena's Desk On, in collaboration with Jiyoun Kim Studio, was released in Korea in December 2023.
